Special Status Mammals

Foraging habitat exists for both pallid bats (Antrozous pallidus) and long-eared bats (Myotis evotis) on the Mitsui Ranch, but the property has not been surveyed for either species. An unidentified species of Myotis uses the chicken house as a roost, and the property holds many dead or dying live oak trees (casualties of Sudden Oak Death Syndrome) that could provide roosting habitat for long-eared bats. Roosting and nursery habitat for pallid bats, however, is uncommon on the property. A bat detector should be deployed to obtain a definitive answer on the presence or absence of these two bat species.
